ANAMBAS

ANAMBAS Anambas is an archipelago in the Riau Islands Province, Indonesia. Its capital is Terempa. Anambas became a separate regency in 2008, having been carved out of the Natuna Regency. The natural beauty of these islands is truly stunning; it is no wonder that the archipelago was named the best tropical island destination in Asia in 2018.

About this destination

HOW TO GET THERE
By Air
To reach the various tourist destinations on this island, you should first book a flight to Raja Haji Fisabilillah International Airport in Tanjung Pinang, Bintan Island. From there, you will take a connecting flight to Matak Airport in the Anambas Islands. The flight from Bintan to Anambas takes approximately one hour. A one-way ticket costs between IDR 750,000 and IDR 1.2 million. Flights to this destination are frequently fully booked, so it is highly recommended to make your reservations well in advance.

By Sea
Alternatively, if you prefer to travel by sea, you can reach the islands via ferry or ship departing from Tanjung Pinang (Bintan) or Batam. There are two ports on the islands that serve regular passenger vessels—such as the KM Bukit Raya, KM Sabuk Nusantara, Blue Sealet 1, the pioneer vessel KM Terigas, and the MV VOC Batavia—namely the ports of Tarempa and Letung. If you choose to travel on the KM Bukit Raya, you will need to depart from the Sri Bayintan Port in Kijang, Bintan Regency (located approximately 30 km from Tanjung Pinang). The lowest fare (economy class) is IDR 145,000. From Sri Bayintan Port, the Pelni-operated ship stops at Letung Port before continuing to Tarempa Port. The journey from Kijang to Letung takes about 14 hours, while the trip from Kijang to Tarempa takes 18 hours.

BEST TIME TO VISIT
The best time to visit these islands is during the dry season, specifically between July and September. The hot, sunny weather is perfect for enjoying the exotic tropical coastal scenery. LOCAL LANGUAGES
The Riau Islands are home to at least four varieties of the Malay language, each with distinct dialects. These include the Natuna, Anambas, and Senayang dialects of Malay, as well as 'Malay Dagang' (a variety often used for trade or inter-ethnic communication). Among these, the Anambas dialect of Malay is the most widely spoken.
